Lutung Kasarung
PRABU Tapa Agung was an old king. He had two daughters, Purbararang and Purbasari. Prabu Tapa Agung planned to retire as a king. He wanted Purbasari to replace him as the leader of the kingdom.
Hearing this, Purbararang was angry. "You cannot ask her to be the queen, Father. I'm older than she is. It's supposed to be me, not her!" said Purbararang. But the king still chose Purbasari to be the next queen. Purbararang then set a bad plan with her fiance, Indrajaya. Together they went to a witch and asked her to put a spell on Purbasari. Later, Purbasari had bad skin. There were black dots all over her body. "You are not as beautiful as I am. You cannot be the queen. Instead, you have to leave this palace and stay in a jungle," said Purbararang. Purbasari was very sad. Now she had to stay in the jungle. Everyday she spent her time playing with some animals there.
There was one monkey that always tried to cheer her up. It was not just an ordinary monkey, he had magical power. And he also could talk with humans. The monkey's name was Lutung Kasarung. He was actually a god. His name was Sanghyang Gurumina.
Lutung Kasarung planned to help Purbasari. He made a small lake and asked her to take a bath there. Amazingly, her bad skin was cured. Now she got her beautiful skin back. After that, she asked Lutung Kasarung to accompany her to go back to the palace.
Purbararang was very shocked. She knew she had to come up with another bad idea. She then said, "Those who have longer hair will be the queen." The king then measured his daughters' hair. Purbasari had longer hair. But Purbararang did not give up. "A queen must have a handsome husband. If my fiance is more handsome than yours, then I will be the queen," said Purbararang.
Purbasari was sad. She knew Purbararang's fiance, Indrajaya, was handsome. And she did not have a fiance yet. "Here is my fiancé, Indrajaya. Where is yours?" asked Purbararang. Lutung Kasarung came forward. Purbararang was laughing very hard. "Your fiance is a monkey, ha ha ha." Suddenly, Lutung Kasarung changed into a very a handsome man. He was even more handsome than Indrajaya.

Bawang putih & Bawang merah story
story takes place in a simple village household. The head of this family has two wives, and each wife has their own daughter. Bawang Merah and her mother are jealous of the attention the father gives Bawang Putih and her mother. When the father dies, Bawang Merah and her mother take charge of the household and bully Bawang Putih into servitude. Bawang Putih’s mother stands up for her daughter but she soon dies prematurely, in some versions due to sickness and in some versions due to the intentional malice of Bawang Merah's mother.
With her biological mother and father
dead, the gentle and obedient Bawang Putih is left alone to be tortured by her
cruel stepmother and half-sister. Though Bawang Putih suffers, she is patient.
One day, when she is out in the woods, she sees a pond containing a live fish.
The fish is able to speak, and tells her that it is her mother who has came
back to comfort her. Bawang Putih is overjoyed to be able to speak with her
mother again, and secretly visits the pond whenever she can.
One day Bawang Merah sees Bawang Putih
sneaking off and secretly follows her to the pond, where she witnesses Bawang
Putih talking to the fish. After Bawang Putih leaves, Bawang Merah lures the
fish to the surface of the pond and catches it. Bawang Merah and her mother
kill the fish, cook it and feed it to Bawang Putih without telling her where it
came from. Once Bawang Putih finishes eating, her stepmother and stepsister
reveal where they obtained the fish. Bawang Putih is repulsed and filled with
remorse over this revelation.
Bawang Putih gathers the fish bones and
bury them in a small grave underneath a tree. When she visits the grave the
next day, she is surprised to see that a beautiful swing has appeared from one
of the tree's branches. When Bawang Putih sits in the swing and sings an old
lullaby, it magically swings back and forth.
Bawang Putih continues to visit the
magic swing whenever she can. One day, while she is on the magic swing, a
Prince who is hunting nearby hears her song. He follows the sound of her voice,
but before he approaches her, Bawang Putih realizes that she is not alone, she
quickly runs back home.
The Prince and his advisors eventually
find the home of Bawang Putih and Bawang Merah. (In some versions this happens
immediately after the Prince's first sighting of Bawang Putih, but in other
versions it happens after a long search made by the Prince's advisors). Bawang
Merah's mother, seeing the opportunity, orders Bawang Putih to stay hidden in
the kitchen. The Prince asks about the swing and the girl who sat in it. Bawang
Merah's mother says that the girl he heard is her beautiful and talented
daughter Bawang Merah. Though the Prince agrees that Bawang Merah is beautiful,
he requests that she show him how she sang in the magical swing.
Bawang Merah and mother reluctantly
follow the Prince and his advisors back to the magic swing. Bawang Merah sits
in the swing and attempts to sing so that it will move, but she cannot. The
Prince, now angry, ordered Bawang Merah's mother to tell the truth. Bawang
Merah's mother is forced to confess that she has another daughter hidden in her
house.
The Prince brings Bawang Putih back to
the swing, and as she had done many times before, the magic swing starts moving
as soon as she begins singing. The Prince is overjoyed and asks Bawang Putih to
marry him. She agrees and they live happily ever after.

On the Mt. Olympus the little Hercules is
born, he is the Zeus and Hera's son. The baby is very strong and he is surrounded by
presents among his little winged horses: Pegasus. All gods love Hercules, all
gods but not. Hades. He is the brother of Zeus and the god of Underworld. He
hates Zeus because it's only thanks to him That now he must spend his immortal
life surrounded by souls. Hades wants to reign on the Olympus so he asks help
to the three Fates. They know the past, the present and the future.
The Fates tell to Hades that in eighteen
years the planets will line up: at that time Hades will can to free the Titans
to defeat Zeus... but if Hercules'll fight... Hades will lose his battle.
So Hades prepares a potion to make
deathly the little Hercules. He orders to his slaves Pain and Panic to abduct
the little god, to make drink him all potion and to kill him.
For lucky he has not drink all potion:
Herc is mortal but he always is very strong and now he live on the Earth with
his adoptive parents, Anphitryon and Alcmene.
The strength of Hercules was a problem,
he seemed to break everything he touched. Shunned because of the destruction he
caused, Herc grew up sad and lonely. So Alcmene and Anphityon explained to Herc
that he was indeed different from everyone. They showed to Hercules the symbol
of the gods, the medaillon that was around his neck when they found him.
Eager to solve the mystery of his birth,
Herc traveled to the Temple of Zeus, for answers. He was shocked when the
statue of Zeus come alive and the god revealed that he was Herc's father, and
the goddess Hera was his mother.
Zeus explained that Herc had been
kidnapped and changed into a mortal while still baby. Then he told Herc why he
could not come home.
"Only gods can live on.
Olympus" he said "but if you can prove yourself a true hero on Eath,
your godhood will be restored... first, you must seek Philoctetes, the trainer
of heroes".
Zeus give to his son Pegasus, so Herc
flew off and soon found Philoctetes, the satyr.
"I need your help" Herc told
Phil "I want to become a hero".
"Sorry, kid" said Phil.
"I'm retired. But a lightning from Zeus changed Phil's mind.
Hero-training was so difficult that Herc
often thought of quitting. In the end, though, he refused to give up and keept
on working to reach his goal.
Finally told Herc that he was ready for
his first real test in the big, though city of Thebes.
On their way to Thebes, Phil and Herc
saw a beautiful young woman named Megara, who was being chased by a centaur.
"A damsel in distress!" Phil
shouted. Herc rushed to Megara's rescue.
After Hercules had defeated the centaur,
Megara introduced herself. Herc was so enchanted by Meg's beauty.
On her way home, Meg met Hades and his
helpers, Pain and Panic. Meg mentioned that she had just met someone named
Hercules. Hades was furious when he heard the name. Hercules was the only one
who could stop the evil Hades from taking over Olympus.
Hades began trying destroy Herc once
again. He used Meg to trick Hercules into unleashing a frightening monster
called Hydra. But Herc defeated the Hydra and every other monster that Hades
sent. And with each victory, Herc become more and more famous.
Still Hercules remained mortal, unable
to live on Olympus. Herc asked Zeus why this was so.
"I'm afraid being famous isn't the
same as being a true hero" Zeus answered "You must look inside your
heart".
Hades finally realized that no one was
strong enough to defeat Hercules. Still, Hedes thought, he must have one
weakness...
Suddenly Hades knew the answer: Meg was
Herc's weakness. Hercules would do anything to protect her from harm. Hades thought
about this and came up with and idea. He would make Meg his prisoner!
Herc was so upset when he saw Meg in
chains that he agreed to a strange bargain. He would surrender his strength for
a day if Hades would set Meg free.
Hades was ready to put his plan into
action. When Herc out of the way, the evil god would soon rule the world.
First Hades freed the Titans from the
pit where they had been imprisoned by Zeus. Then Hades ordered the Cyclops, a
one-eyed monster, to get rid of Hercules.
Without his mighty strength, Herc was no
match for the Cyclops. But with Phil's encouragement, Hercules somehow managed
to defeat the monster. Meg, though, was injured while trying to save Herc from
a falling column. And true to Hades' promise, as soon as Meg was hurt,
Hercules' strength come back.
Although Herc didn't want to leave the
gravely injured Meg, she convinced him to go help his father stop Hades.
Hercules left Meg in Phil's care and
hurried to Olympus. He found the gods in chains and Zeus trapped in a
mountain of frozen lava. With his bare hands, Herc ripped open the lava and
freed his father. Together they defeat the Titans.
Hades knew his grand plan to take over
Olympus was now ruined. As he headed back to the Underworld, he took pleasure
in telling Hercules that Meg was dying.
Hercules hurried back Meg, but her
spirit had already left her body. Hercules rushed down to the Underworld, where
he saw Meg's spirit floating in a pit of swirling souls.
"Take me in Meg's place" Herc told
Hades.
That selfless act - Herc's willingness
to give his life for Meg - made him a true hero at last.
On his return to Olympus, Hercules was
given a hero's welcome. But he finally knew where he truly belongs on Earth
with Meg, where together they would live happily ever after.

THE THREE BEARS
In
a far-off country there was once a little girl who was called Silver-hair,
because her curly hair shone brightly. She was a sad romp, and so restless that
she could not be kept quiet at home, but must needs run out and away, without leave.
One day she started off into a wood to gather wild flowers, and into the fields to chase butterflies. She ran here and she ran there, and went so far, at last, that she found herself in a lonely place, where she saw a snug little house, in which three bears lived; but they were not then at home.
The door was ajar, and Silver-hair pushed it open and found the place to be quite empty, so she made up her mind to go in boldly, and look all about the place, little thinking what sort of people lived there.
Now the three bears had gone out to walk a little before this. They were the Big Bear, and the Middle-sized Bear, and the Little Bear; but they had left their porridge on the table to cool. So when Silver-hair came into the kitchen, she saw the three bowls of porridge. She tasted the largest bowl, which belonged to the Big Bear, and found it too cold; then she tasted the middle-sized bowl, which belonged to the Middle-sized Bear, and found it too hot; then she tasted the smallest bowl, which belonged to the Little Bear, and it was just right, and she ate it all.
She went into the parlour, and there were three chairs. She tried the biggest chair, which belonged to the Big Bear, and found it too high; then she tried the middle-sized chair, which belonged to the Middle-sized Bear, and she found it too broad; then she tried the little chair, which belonged to the Little Bear, and found it just right, but she sat in it so hard that she broke it.
Now Silver-hair was by this time very tired, and she went upstairs to the chamber, and there she found three beds. She tried the largest bed, which belonged to the Big Bear, and found it too soft; then she tried the middle-sized bed, which belonged to the Middle-sized Bear, and she found it too hard; then she tried the smallest bed, which belonged to the Little Bear, and found it just right, so she lay down upon it, and fell fast asleep.
While Silver-hair was lying fast asleep, the three bears came home from their walk. They came into the kitchen, to get their porridge, but when the Big Bear went to his, he growled out:
"SOMEBODY HAS BEEN TASTING MY PORRIDGE!"

The Legend of Surabaya
A long time ago in East Java there were two strong animals, Sura and Baya. Sura was a shark and Baya was a
crocodile. They lived in a sea. Actually, they were friends. But when they were hungry, they were very greedy. They did not want to share their food. They would fight for it and never stop fighting until one of them gave up.
It was a very hot day. Sura and Baya were looking for some food. Suddenly, Baya saw a goat.
“Yummy, this is my lunch,” said Baya.
“No way! This is my lunch. You are greedy! I had not eaten for two days!” said Sura.
Then Sura and Baya fought again. After several hours, they were very tired. Sura had a plan to stop their bad behavior.
“I’m tired of fighting, Baya,” said Sura.
“Me too. What should we do to stop fighting? Do you have any idea?” asked Baya.
“Yes, I do. Let’s share our territory. I live in the water, so I look for food in the sea. And you live on the land, right? So, you look for the food also on the land. The border is the beach, so we will never meet again. Do you agree?” asked Sura.
“Hmm... let me think about it. OK, I agree. From today, I will never go to the sea again. My place is on the land,” said Baya.
Then they both lived in the different places. But one day, Sura went to the land and looked for some food in the river. He was very hungry and there was not much food in the sea. Baya was very angry when he knew that Sura broke the promise.
“Hey, what are you doing here? This is my place. Your place is in the sea!”
“But, there is water in the river, right? So, this is also my place!” said Sura.
Then Sura and Baya fought again. They both hit each other. Sura bit Baya's tail. Baya did the same thing to Sura. He bit very hard until Sura finally gave up. He went back to the sea. Baya was very happy. He had his place again.
The place where they were fighting was a mess. Blood was everywhere. People then always talked about the fight between Sura and Baya. They then named the place of the fight as Surabaya, it’s from Sura the shark and Baya the crocodile. People also put their fight as the symbol of Surabaya city.

There was once a boy called Jack who was brave and
quick-witted. He lived with his mother in a small cottage and their most
valuable possession was their cow, Milky-White. But the day came when
Milky-White gave them no milk and Jack's mother said she must be sold.
"Take her to
market," she told Jack, "and mind you get a good price for her."
So Jack set out to
market leading Milky-White by her halter. After a while he sat down to rest by
the side of the road. An old man came by and Jack told him where he was going.
"Don't bother to
go to the market,"
The old man said. "Sell your cow
to me. I will pay you well. Look at these beans. Only plant them, and overnight
you will find you have the finest bean plants in all the world. You'll be
better off with these beans than with an old cow or money. Now, how many is
five, Jack?"
"Two
in each hand and one in your mouth," replied Jack, as sharp as a needle.
"Right
you are, here are five beans," said the old man and he handed the beans to
Jack and took Milky-White's halter.
When
he reached home, his mother said, "Back so soon, Jack? Did you get a good
price for Milky-White?"
Jack told her how he
had exchanged the cow for five beans and before he could finish his account,
his mother started to shout and box his ears. "You lazy good-for-nothing
boy!" she screamed, "How could you hand over our cow for five old
beans? What will we live on now? We shall starve to death, you stupid
boy."
She flung the beans
through the open window and sent Jack to bed without his supper.
When Jack woke the
next morning there was a strange green light in his room. All he could see
from, the window was green leaves. A huge beanstalk had shot up overnight. It
grew higher than he could see. Quickly Jack got dressed and stepped out of the
window right onto the beanstalk and started to climb.
"The old man
said the beans would grow overnight," he thought. "They must indeed
be very special beans."
Higher and higher
Jack climbed until at last he reached the top and found himselfon a strange
road. Jack followed it until he came to a great castle where he could smell the
most delicious breakfast. Jack was hungry. It had been a long climb and he had
had nothing to eat since midday the day before. Just as he reached the door of
the castle he nearly tripped over the feet of an enormous woman.
"Here,
boy," she called. "What are you doing? Don't you know my husband
likes to eat boys for breakfast? It's lucky I have already fried up some bacon
and mushrooms for him today, or I'd pop you in the frying pan. He can eat you
tomorrow, though."
"Oh, please
don't let him eat me," pleaded Jack. "I only came to ask you for a
bite to eat. It smells so delicious."
Now the giant's wife
had a kind heart and did not really enjoy cooking boys for breakfast, so she
gave Jack a bacon sandwich. He was still eating it when the ground began to
shake with heavy footsteps, and a loud voice boomed: "Fee, Fi, Fo,
Fum."
"Quick,
hide!" cried the giant's wife and she pushed Jack into the oven.
"After breakfast, he'll fall asleep," she whispered. "That is
when you must creep away." She left the oven door open a crack so that
jack could see into the room. Again the terrible rumbling voice came:
"Fee, Fi, Fo, Fum,
I smell the blood of an Englishman,
Be he alive or be he dead,
I'll grind his bones to make my bread."
A huge giant came
into the room. "Boys, boys, I smell boys," he shouted. "Wife,
have I got a boy for breakfast today?"
"No, dear,"
she said soothingly. "You have got bacon and mushrooms. You must still be
smelling the boy you ate last week." The giant sniffed the air
suspiciously but at last sat down. He wolfed his breakfast of bacon and mushrooms
drank a great bucketful of steaming tea and crunched up a massive slice of
toast. Then he fetched a couple of bags of gold from a cupboard and started
counting gold coins. Before long he dropped off to sleep.
"Fee, Fi, Fo, Fum,
I smell the blood of cm Englishman,
Be he alive or be he dead,
I'll grind his bones to make my bread."
The giant's wife put
a plate of sizzling sausages before him, telling him he must be mistaken. After
breakfast the giant fetched a hen from a back room. Every time he said
"Lay!" the hen laid an egg of solid gold.
"I must steal
that hen, if I can," thought Jack, and he waited until the giant fell
asleep. Then he slipped out of the oven, snotched up the and rim for the top of
the beanstalk. Keeping the hen under one arm, he scrambled Jack and the
Beanstalk clown as fast as he could until he reached the bottom. Jack's mother
was waiting but she was not pleased when she saw the hen.
"Another of your
silly ideas, is it, bringing an old hen when you might have brought us some
gold? I don't know, what is to be done with you?"
Then jack set the hen
down carefully, and cornmanded "Lay!" just as the giant had done. To
his mother's surprise the hen laid an egg of solid gold.
Jack and his mother
now lived in great luxury. But in time Jack became a little bored and decided
to climb the beanstalk again.
This time he did not
risk talking to the giant's wife in case she recognized him. He slipped into
the kitchen when she was not looking, and hid himself in the log basket. He
watched the giant's wife prepare breakfast and then he heard the giant's roar:
"Fee, Fi, Fo, Fum,
I smell the blood of an Englishman,
Be he alive or be he dead,
I'll grind his bones to make my bread."
"If it's that
cheeky boy who stole your gold and our magic hen, then help you catch
him," said the giant's wife. "Why don't we look in the oven? It's my
guess he'll be hiding there."
You
may be sure that jack was glad he was not in the oven. The giant and his wife
hunted high and low but never thought to look in the log basket. At last they
gave up and the giant sat down to breakfast.
After
he had eaten, the giant fetched a harp. When he commanded "Play!" the
harp played the most beautiful music. Soon the giant fell asleep, and jack
crept out of the log basket. Quickly he snatched up the harp and ran. But the
harp called out loudly, "Master, save me! Save me!" and the giant
woke. With a roar of rage he chased after Jack.
Jack raced down the road towards the
beanstalk with the giant's footsteps thundering behind him. When he reached the
top of the beanstalk he threw down the harp and started to slither down after
it.
The
giant followed, and now the whole beanstalk shook and shuddered with his
weight, and Jack feared for his life. At last he reached the ground, and
seizing an axe he chopped at the beanstalk with all his might. Snap!
"Look
out, mother!" he called as the giant came tumbling clown, head first. He
lay dead at their feet with the beanstalk on the ground beside them. The harp
was broken, but the hen continued to lay golden eggs for Jack and his mother
and they lived happily and in great comfort for a long, long time.
The Three Bears
ONCE UPON A TIME, there were three
little bears, a mama bear, a papa bear, and a baby bear. These bears lived in a
house in the woods, which is very unusual for bears.
One day Mama Bear was making porridge
for breakfast, but the porridge was too hot. The bears decided to go for a
walk.
While they were out, a little girl with
long golden curls came to the door of their house and knocked. Her name was
Goldilocks. She knocked and knocked, but no one answered. Goldilocks was lost
and tired and very hungry.
Finally, she opened the door and peeked
inside. “Hello?” she said, but no one answered. Goldilocks went into the dining
room, where she found three bowls of porridge on the table.
She tasted Papa Bear's porridge, but it
was too hot. She tasted Mama Bear's porridge, but it was too cold. She tasted
Baby Bear's porridge, and it was just right! So, she ate it all up.
Then she decided to sit down in the
living room and read a magazine. First she sat in Papa Bear's chair, but it was
too hard. Then she sat in Mama Bear's chair, but it was too soft. Finally, she
sat in Baby Bear's chair, and it was just right! She started reading her
magazine, but then Baby Bear's chair broke—CRACK—into a million billion
trillion pieces!
Goldilocks was very tired now, so she
went upstairs to look for a bed to lie down in. First she tried Papa Bear's
bed, but it was too hard. Then she lay in Mama Bear's bed, but it was too soft.
Finally, she lay in Baby Bear's bed, and it was just right! She fell fast
asleep.
A little while later, the three bears
came home from their walk. They went into the dining room and sat down to eat
their breakfast.
“Somebody's been eating my porridge,”
said Papa Bear.
“Somebody's been eating my porridge,”
said Mama Bear. “And somebody's been eating my porridge,” said Baby Bear. “And
they ate it all up. Boo hoo!”
The Bear family went into the living
room to discuss what should be done.
“Somebody's been sitting in my chair,”
said Papa Bear.
“Somebody's been sitting in my chair,”
said Mama Bear.
“Somebody's been sitting in my chair,
too,” said Baby Bear. “And they broke it into a million billion trillion
pieces. Boo hoo!”
By now the Bear family was quite upset.
They went upstairs to check the rest of the house.
“Somebody's been sleeping in my bed,”
said Papa Bear.
“Somebody's been sleeping in my bed,”
said Mama Bear.
“Somebody's been sleeping in my bed,”
said Baby Bear. “And there she is!”
“GROWL!” said all the bears.
Goldilocks woke up with a start, and
the bears chased her all around the house, until everyone was quite exhausted.
Goldilocks explained that she was lost
and hungry and that she was very, very sorry. Baby Bear was still very upset.
Finally, they all came up with an
answer. Goldilocks helped Papa Bear fix the chair. She helped Mama Bear cook
more porridge And she taught Baby Bear how to make his bed. Then Goldilocks
washed up all the dishes, and the bears told her how to get home from the
forest.
And they all lived happily ever after.

THE LION AND THE MOUSE
One day a Lion slept in the
jungle. A tiny mouse ran over the Lion’s head and down his nose. The Lion awoke
with a loud roar. He was very angry. His paw caught the little mouse.
The Lion opened his huge jaws to
swallow the mouse “Pardon me. O King, I beg of you“ cried the frightened mouse.
“If you forgive me this time, i
will never forget your kindness. I meant no harm and I certainly didn’t want to
disturb your majesty. If you let me stay a live, I can do you a good turn,
too”.
The Lion began to laugh. He
laughed and laughed. “How could a tiny creature like you ever do anything to
help me?“ And he shook with laughter. “Oh well, “he shrugged, looking down at
the frightened mouse,” you’re not so much of a meal anyway.
Then, he released his paw from
the mouse and the mouse quickly ran away. Some time after this, some
hunters, tried to capture the Lion alive. They set up rope nets in the jungle.
The Lion fell in to the trap. He roared and thrashed.
His thunderous bellows sent
through the jungle.
The tiny mouse heard the Lion’s
roars.
“That may be the Lion who once
freed me” he said remembering his promise. And he ran to see whether he could
help.
Discovering the sad Lion, the
mouse said to him “Stop, stop! You must not roar. If you make so much noise,
the hunters will come and capture you. I’ll get you out of this trap”
With his sharp little teeth, the
mouse gnawed at the ropes until they broke. The Lion stepped out of the het and
was free. The mouse said. Now, why not right?”
“Thank you, good mouse,” Said
Lion gently. “You did help me. I see now that kindness is always worth while”.
